Millburn Standard

Millburn, New Jersey

Millburn Standard represents the latest transformation of a site where our team has designed five different dining concepts over the last twenty years. What began as a single, modest bistro gradually expanded into neighboring storefronts, ultimately merging five separate spaces into one unified restaurant. This final evolution required a full gut renovation of the entire first floor.

To create a warm and expansive dining environment, we exposed the existing wood structure, raising the perceived ceiling height and introducing natural materiality. Along the full façade, a series of large glass garage doors opens the restaurant to the street, offering transparency and liveliness. Wood accent panels between the openings visually connect what were once two unrelated buildings, establishing a cohesive and balanced exterior presence.

A stone-clad entry with natural gas sconces creates a defined, welcoming threshold. Inside, the bar anchors the space, glowing softly against an illuminated back-bar wall that adds depth and atmosphere. Historic photographs of Downtown Millburn are integrated throughout as a tribute to the community. High-backed booths offer acoustic comfort, creating intimate moments within the broader open layout.
“Millburn Standard marks the fifth concept our team has designed for this particular location in the last twenty years, giving us unparalleled insights into the sites potential and history”
